Raise Your Blog's PR

While many bloggers would like to think they are immune to Google’s PR (page rank) index, the fact of the matter is that blogs are ranked. That little number makes all the difference when you are applying to paid blogging programs and it even matters when other blogs are deciding whether or not to link to you! Getting your PR up is one of the main jobs of a blogger, apart from writing and getting traffic.

Getting good quality backlinks from high PR websites is the best way to build your PR. Reciprocal or two way links aren’t very useful, you will need to get one way links from high PR websites and blogs. This isn’t as difficult as it might seem. Most well-trafficked sites have high PR and you can take full advantage of this.

For blogs, find blogs that use the “do follow” feature, allowing search engines to follow links in the comments. Then comment on the posts you find. This is obviously best if the blog has something to do with your theme, but any link is good! Just make sure you offer good quality comments, not just ads or a “great post” comment. Since these are mostly monitored, spam comments will usually be deleted and you lose the potential benefit.

Providing good quality content is a good way to have people automatically link to you. They will want to provide their own readers with the information that you are offering and will possibly review your site or mention it in passing, along with a link. These are very useful to have, since you don’t even have to work for them!

To get one way links from bigger websites, you can try writing an article just for them with your link in the resource box. You can also submit articles to free article directories and have them distributed with your URL all over the web for free, but you will have no control over what sort of website picks them up. Aiming your articles at one particular, high PR website is the best way to make sure your articles are getting onto a quality site where the backlink is worth having.

Testimonials are another way to earn links. By offering a good, positive testimonial on a product or service that you have used, you can often get not only your business name, but a link back to your blog. Most websites are more than happy to give you kudos for your testimonial.

Forums are yet another great way to get backlinks. Use your URL in your signature where allowed and post high quality responses to the questions already on the forum, as well as starting a few threads yourself. This can also earn you traffic (and possibly links from fellow readers, as well!) on top of good PR links. Look for popular forums that already have a high ranking to build yours.

Building backlinks isn’t as difficult as it might seem, although it does take some time. By posting in forums, commenting on blogs and getting your links onto high PR websites, you are sure to raise your level rapidly. The only thing you have to wait for is Google to do an update!
