Major Reasons Why Blogging For Your Site Will Fail To Generate Traffic

These days, it seems almost every website has a blog area that is either the main focus of the site, or at least the semi-focus of the overall web design. It can be a frustrating ordeal for a lot of webmasters to keep the blog up to date and generate more traffic at the same time. The following common mistakes that a lot of webmasters continue to make sure don't help matters either.

A fairly good description of a blog would be: A major area of text on a person's website that is updated at least once a week, usually about the main context of the site.

A major problem that some sites have when it comes to blogs are the fact that the author's name is not on the blog at all. They not only fail to give the author's name, they also don't give any credentials about the author, so the reader, or potential buyer, has no reason to read the blog. Readers love to get credible information about a variety of subjects, but they do need the knowledge that the author knows what he is talking about. ALWAYS include a short background snippet about the author's credentials or his work-related history he has that ties into the blog context.

Another big problem is not publishing on a regular basis. Some sites have blogs that are updated on the 15th of the month, then they go 3 weeks with no updates. Four weeks later they have an update, then say they will do it more often, then do it again 5 days later, then again 2 weeks later. You can imagine how a reader will get frustrated at the infrequency of a schedule like that. NEVER adhere to a schedule that cannot be easily understood by a web reader. I would recommend an update every Monday morning at the very least, to establish returning weekly traffic.

A lot of blogs have mixed topics, or topics that have no real focus. This is a real reader-killer, as most web surfers get bored easily, and if you have no focus on a real topic, they for sure will go elsewhere in a nano-second. STAY FOCUSED on the topic you are blogging about, or you will have no customers!

You should also never have your domain name end in blogspot.com or any other domain name not controlled and regulated by you. You are like putty in someone else's hand, if that is the case, and most web readers know this. If you want to be taken seriously with your blog you MUST have your own personal domain name.
